NEBULA: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Answers to frequently asked questions at a glance.

GENERAL: HOW DOES NEBULA WORK?

Simply create your account at https://nebula.pointcab-software.com/ and you can easily start testing right away. Your Freemium slot will remain indefinetly and will be topped up with 3 new charges every year.”

You can find an overview of our prices in our shop. We are also happy to advise you based on your needs and provide a customized offer. Simply contact our Sales Team at sales@pointcab-software.com.

Your data is stored in your own cloud (e.g., Google Drive, Nextcloud, or Microsoft OneDrive). This means you have full control over the storage of your data.

To ensure an entirely seamless user experience, we temporarily store some data.

Simple and transparent: our slot model.

With PointCab Nebula, you don’t pay per GB and/or user count, but in a transparent and simple way, per slot.

A ‘slot’ can be understood as an available placeholder for a point cloud project. Each ‘slot’ can visualize exactly ONE project at a time. However, the project can be swapped up to 3 consecutive times.

The number of ‘charges’ indicates how many times you can swap the projects within a slot. For example, with annual slots, you can visualize up to 3 projects in a year, one after the other.

What is the difference between Freemium and Premium slots?

The most important thing first: The Freemium slot is free for all Nebula users and will remain so in the future.

The Freemium slot is an annual slot and includes 3 “charges.” It is automatically created as soon as a Nebula license is first created. After exactly one year, the slot will automatically renew for another year, and 3 new “charges” will be unlocked. The difference from the Premium slot is that only one link can be created to share the project. This link is not password-protected and cannot have an expiration date. Additionally, only the entire project can be shared, not specific results, for example.

With the Premium slot, on the other hand, all these sharing options are available. Another major advantage of Premium slots is that as soon as you purchase at least one Premium slot, your Freemium slot will automatically be upgraded to a Premium slot for the duration of the Premium slot.

No. Whether your project is 5GB, 50GB, or 500GB doesn’t matter to us. The rule is: one project per slot – size doesn’t matter.

Of course, you should ensure that you have enough storage space available in the cloud you’re using before uploading.

Again, a clear ‘No.’ You can potentially add an unlimited number of users to Nebula. However, it is important that each user has an email address with the same company domain (e.g., @companyXYZ.de) and that they also have access to your connected cloud via that email address.

We are working to integrate more cloud services with Nebula over time. Which providers we integrate first is decided by our product management team. Feel free to email our team, and your provider may receive priority.

In the meantime, we recommend testing one of the currently supported providers. For example, Nextcloud is an open-source product and can be installed for free on your own server.

Of course. Even non-Origin customers can visualize and share their point cloud projects via Nebula using the Nebula Creator. However, since the Creator is still in the beta phase, you will need to register with us as a beta tester first. Our product management team will gladly add you to the list.

Our slots do not renew automatically. So, you can simply relax and let the slot expire without any further action needed.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

To connect Nebula with your Nextcloud, you need to make sure the “WebAppPassword” app is installed on your Nextcloud instance. To install the app, follow these steps:

  1. Click on your user icon in the upper right corner and go to “Apps.”

  2. In the sidebar, click on “My apps,” then click the search icon.

  3. Search for “webapppassword,” then install and activate the app.

  4. Go to the admin settings, then to “webapppassword.”
In ALL three fields, enter the following:

    • https://nebula2.pointcab-software.com (for beta testers) and/or https://nebula2.pointcab-software.com

Please note:
You’ll need admin access to install the app.
If you don’t have admin rights, please contact your company’s system administrator or your service provider (e.g., IONOS).

Click on ‘Account Manager’ in the top right corner of your home menu. Then select ‘Invite Colleague.’ You can now send an invitation to your colleague via email.

Important: You can only add users who use the same company domain in their email address as you (e.g., @comapnyXYZ.de). Also, make sure that the new user has access to your cloud with that same email address (e.g., Google Drive).

Our Nebula licenses are not tied to individual users but to a company. This means that the slots are company-bound. Specifically, this means that any changes to a slot apply to all users within the company.

In this case, you most likely do not have the required access rights for the project. Your colleague needs to share the project folder with you in the cloud you both use (e.g., Google Drive).

If your issues persist, please contact support@pointcab-software.com.

The short answer is: no.

The long answer: To update a project without deducting a ‘charge,’ you need to upload the new, additional results to the existing project folder in your cloud and then update the project in Nebula. We show you how this works in one of our tutorials.

To share only specific parts of a project, you need a Premium Slot. This option is not available with the Freemium Slot.

Open your project from the Premium Slot. Then, select the ‘Share Project’ icon from the left toolbar. Uncheck ‘Share Full Project.’ Click on ‘Choose Orthophotos & Scans’ to select which results you want to share.

To provide a better user experience and reduce loading times, the coordinates for the pano views are not automatically loaded when opening them. To measure in the pano views, you first need to download the coordinates.

You can do this by opening the desired pano and clicking ‘Download Coordinates’ in the toolbar at the top right. Once the download is complete, you can start measuring.

If Nebula is loading slowly, there can be many reasons. Here are some possible solutions:

  1. Check your internet connection for download speed.
  2. Read our Guidelines for using SaaS software and check if you’ve implemented all the recommendations

Usually, this problem can be solved by deleting the online database. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Open the developer tools in your browser (Simply press F12 if you’re working on Windows)
  2. Select “Application” in the top menu
  3. Select “IndexedDB” in the side menu.
  4. Select your Project and “Delete database”

Now the project will reload and you should be able to see all tiles. If the error persists, please reach out to our Support Team.

This issue can often be resolved by clearing your browser cache. Depending on your browser, the exact steps may vary slightly, but in general, you can follow these instructions:

  1. Open the menu in the top right corner of your browser.

  2. Go to History → Delete browsing data.

  3. Clear all cached images and files.
You do not need to delete cookies or other data.

If the problem persists, please reach out to our support team.

In short: Yes!

Important:
Only projects that use UTM Zone 32 can be displayed correctly in Nebula’s 3D viewer.
Ideally, you should upload your projects to Nebula already using the correct zone. Alternatively, you can also georeference your projects within the 3D view by entering the correct coordinates manually.

To ensure optimal performance, the display of your point cloud results (such as orthophotos) is currently limited to LOD 6.

We’re actively working on future Nebula versions that will allow you to set the level of detail (LOD) yourself.

That’s exactly what the Project Integrity Check in Nebula is for. To run it, open your project in a slot and click the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the left-hand menu bar.
You’ll then see whether any files are missing and in which folder.

Simply upload the missing files to the corresponding folder in your cloud and update your project in Nebula.

If the issue persists, please contact our support team.
